The IBM Data Science Professional Certificate is a non-prerequisite (no prior coding experience required) course and is a good starting point for anyone that wants to transition into the field of data or machine learning. You may be a newbie or even a veteran in the field of data and you are looking for a professional certificate to acquire for little or no cost. You are in the right place. This article would try to answer questions on what the course is all about basically.
WHAT is the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate about?
It is all about data. You’d learn basics of data, SQL, Python and its libraries, data visualization, data analysis and build various machine learning projects. At the completion of the course, you would be armed with the knowledge to get employment as a junior entry data scientist at the very least.
WHO is it for?
Well, it is not for everyone. If you want to pursue or advance your career in data science/machine learning, then it is definitely a no-brainer for you. No prior knowledge of coding is required and the courses do not just throw you into the deep end at the beginning, it is a gentle slope.
HOW to start?
Log onto Coursera website and search for IBM Data Science Course. You could pay the $39 per month fees or you could take the financial aid route (which is what I did). Getting the financial aid is not that big of a hassle. Just follow these steps and you would be fine.
HOW long does it take to complete?
Well, Coursera says it should take 11 months. I finished mine in 6 months, I know someone that completed it in 4 months. The course is self paced, so you would not be under pressure to meet deadlines for the most part, unless they are deadlines you set for yourself. So basically, try and fit the courses around your schedule.
WHY should you start/complete the course?
I honestly cannot answer this, only you can. Everybody with their different whys. There is one thing that is constant though which is self improvement which would inevitably lead a domino effect of positive outcomes; promotion, getting a job, more knowledgeable, better income.
